MOLDING TALK EP.18 – The IMPLEMENTATION of the 1^st TRY-OUT;(New mold)
“ Mold design is correct, mold functions passed the commissioning, plastic, and suitable machine are ready. The implementation of the try-out, the new mold must come across the preparation and state at the point that the mold is ready to start the 1^st shot.”

This week, we talked about the “IMPLEMENTATION” of the 1st try-out (new mold). How to handle the try-out with the new mold which already came across the mold commissioning; without any mold movement problems, without water leakage, correct mold design/gate/runner/air venting all are correct and can-do automatic cycle run.

And welcome the new audience from Malaysia(Bottom left) who joined us the first time. He knew MOLDING TALK from an email from his friend. Mr.Nart, the senior molder came back to join MOLDING TALK again after few weeks. Nart is now working as the individual consultant after he retire from his work(Blue shirt-Top left). 

Question :, What is the first thing the systematic molding implement in the 1^st try-out ? Mac asked to HANK.
HANK Tsai :  Mold temperature setting must do the 1st. The correct mold surface temperature follows the plastic manufacturer recommendation is very important, the simulation results can be used for reference. Avoid using the water from cooling tower which without of the temperature control. The extra important is the water temperature must be under control. The water from open system and without the monitoring is very secure to the stability and robustness of the cycles.

Question : How about the mold temperature control in America that the weather is different from Thailand, especially when the winter ?  The close system applies used in US, due to the very cold in the winter the open system made water transform to an ice. It is like the country which having snow., Mac asked to Mr. NART and his answered.

 Question : Since mod temperature was set. How do you ensure the mold surface is correct and stable for the 1^st shot.?
HANK Tsai : The touching measure by the temperature measure device should apply. Specify the points on the mold surface both on Core and cavity sides 4 points each then record.

Mac : The control of water flow rate, water temperature through each water circuits can help the molders monitor the change of mold temperature from the change of water temperature (https://fluent.co.th/mouldflo-cooling-sensors/). The Infrared temperature camera(IR Camera) can also help to know the hot spot and monitor the mold surface temperature.  

Question : The next after mold temperature correct setting ?

HANK Tsai : Melt temperature, back pressure, screw speed is the related to give the right molten plastic temperature. The recommendation from the plastic manufacturer is the most important.
Mr. NART : Melt temperature must be measured by the pyrometer before injecting into the mold cavity.
Mr. Salim : Yes, we do the purge then dip the pyrometer into the molten plastic.
